Automatically open Unstream anytime you open Spotify or Apple Music

A friend of mine asked if it was possible to smartly run Unstream anytime Spotify is playing – they kept forgetting to open it.

Unstream has a setting where you can automatically open when you log into your Mac, but you can also use macOS Shortcuts to automatically launch Unstream whenever you open Spotify or Apple Music. To set this up:

1. Open the Shortcuts app on your Mac
2. Click the Automations tab in the sidebar
3. Click the + button to create a new automation
4. Select “App” as the trigger
5. Click “Choose” and select Spotify (or Apple Music)
6. Make sure “is opened” is selected
7. Click Done
8. For the action, click “Open App”
9. Select Unstream from the app list
10. Click Done to save

Repeat steps 3-10 if you want to trigger Unstream for both Spotify and Apple Music.

What this does: Every time you open Spotify (or Apple Music), Unstream will automatically launch and appear in your menu bar, ready to show you alternative platforms for whatever you’re listening to.
