So my annual salary is $197,366. That’s actually what it is – it’s right there on the Buffer website along with everyone else’s: https://buff.ly/49bimoS

I’m also not the only PM at my level at Buffer, and I’m happy that my peer makes the exact same salary (in USD) as I do, and others know what to expect when they reach Staff level.

It’s also weirdly specific. That’s because it’s rooted in market data and math and principles. Not some lazy attempt to round off a number that sounded good, or because I was able to negotiate some small bump in a conversation I was privileged to have.

Why would I just throw that on LinkedIn? Because I think having open discourse about compensation is important. We all know how deep the inequity runs in tech, intentional or not, and it’s on us all to continue to push for that inequity to go away.

In fact, we had some unintentional inequity and opaqueness in our salaries at Buffer, and we underwent the painstaking (but ultimately right and principled) process of cleaning all that up. We’ve also got a vision for what’s next for us surrounding salary transparency.
