I just took 7 work days off – 11 days including weekends – and I had Sunday scaries last night.

I don’t have the classic, perfect-for-LinkedIn-content “excited to dive back in” feeling. I’m kind of anxious about starting up this morning. I wouldn’t say that I feel well rested, either (though I’m not convinced that traveling with children is a restful endeavor).

I’m sure it’ll subside within a few hours today and I’ll fall back into enjoying my work on Buffer again.

This happens for me a lot when I take extended time off from work. I have this habit of getting so attached to vacation mode – not because I love the idleness, but because I gradually fill up that time & mental load with all the other things I enjoy doing when I am not thinking about work.

The time with my kid.
The time with my wife!
The songs I can produce exactly to my liking.
The satisfaction of doing a bit more yard work than I can normally fit into a weekend.
The random little business ideas that I can now vibe code but don’t have the mental energy for otherwise.

And I get a little anxious that I now have to fit that one other big thing into my brain & schedule again.

Do people not feel that? Or is it just taboo to talk about on LinkedIn?

That all said, traveling is great 👍
