Yeah, that 996 thing. Here’s my problem with it: the discourse.

It’s a niche thing in one (major) US city, probably mostly early-stage hustle-bro AI startups. The chart below shows a zero point four percent increase of activity suggesting Saturday work (look at the y axis).

This is not taking over San Francisco. I don’t mind if a bunch of hustle bros want to burn themselves out in an attempt to build something they think could be great.

The problem though is that posts like this legitimize worker-hostile ideas like 996 in an even more insidious way - through misleading charts and clickbait content disguised as thought leadership.
