Something I love about working for @Buffer is that I don’t have to compromise my personal values to show up & do good work, because the values alignment is quite high.

This feels rare, and special, in 2025 tech.

Some ways in which this shows up in a typical week:

  • We make decisions in the interest of building actual trust & delight with our customers rather than short-term growth – like when we proactively canceled the plans of 1,300 truly inactive customers, or when we pulled back on paid-plan trial offers & made it easier to just use the free product, or built Goal-setting features that help users keep a social habit without the dark patterns that scare them into coming back.

  • I have the privilege of debating & discussing important, complex topics in tech with folks across the entire team, including the mixed-bag state of AI and the tumultuous world of social platforms. Everyone from the newest person on our finance team to the CEO can partake, the discussion is always thoughtful, and no idea is shot down. We keep pace high, but we don’t rush important decisions.

  • I have the flexibility to work on my side project (music) and be with my family significantly more than I would at basically any other full-time tech job. Not only is this possible, but they’re encouraged: My side project gives me a reason to dogfood the product & build a perspective on what our product needs; family & rest are considered key for the “marathon” we find ourselves in building a long-lasting & delightful product experience for a wide market.

  • I’m also encouraged to “be a creator” myself and publicly share things which I’m proud of – like each of the above things.

The wild thing is, with the discourse around the 2025 tech industry, you’d think such a company is flailing or stagnant. Truth is we’re growing faster than we have in years, despite keeping our company small, nimble, focused on value & sticking to our values.

Don’t believe me? Our metrics are public (link in comments!) – yet another example of that same values alignment 😉
