Here’s a fun productivity tip: Get a turntable.
Hear me out: We all love Pomodoro timers, right? Well, the typical vinyl LP (long-play record) is about 16-24 minutes of music on each side. Get a turntable and a few albums you love, and you have an analog focus timer at your disposal.
It makes for a nice, somewhat consistent set of pomodoro focus blocks while you listen, with a short break to get up and flip sides, or pick a new album.
You also get to intentionally listen to music of your choice, rather than relying on an algorithm to pick for you. Plus, it’s a warmer, mellower sound than the usually highly compressed music most commonly heard on your streaming service.
Even better: if you buy an independent artist’s album, you can support them far better than a streaming service could 💁🏻♂️
I just inherited my parents’ old analog setup and lots of old records, so I’m slowly going through them, and I’ve really enjoyed working at the table to them! I was dad-jamming to Steely Dan last night while tinkering with my personal website.
If you have any vinyl - what did you last spin?
If not - what would you buy first?
