I wrote yesterday about how I think social media needs to stay fun (and by extension, stay human) in order to continue to thrive and be useful to the world.

Something that bugs me about LinkedIn is how it always seems to be about the work.

That honestly gets exhausting. That’s also not how we realistically interact with colleagues, is it? You’ve never had a small-talk chat with a coworker about last night’s game, or this new movie you’re digging, or (gasp) what each other’s kids are up to?

I say we bring more of that to LinkedIn.

Sure, it’s a place for work discourse and knowledge sharing, but why restrict that to product management frameworks and startup learnings and (gasp) AI tips?

Let’s share side projects. What we did last weekend. Music recommendations. How we fixed that weird electrical issue in our homes.

(And maybe not what it taught us about B2B sales 🥴 )

It will make this place feel more human, genuine, like a community. Less like an endless feed of capitalist hustle and rage-baiting slop. Which would you prefer?

So here’s my non-work contribution to LinkedIn today:

I’ve become obsessed (again) with the composer Steve Reich, and particularly his works “Music for 18 Musicians”, “Eight Lines”, and “Different Trains”. I truly recommend everyone & anyone listen to these, and really give them an active, present listen. They will astound you. They’re even great (especially the first one) as background music for focused work!

What’s a recent musical obsession you’ve got?
